MALINDA WALKERMethods
There many different methods of painting, and I think that most artists tend to have one or two that they favor. I do most of my paintings either from photographs or plein-air. When painting from photographs, I like to use small snapshots. When I become interested in a subject matter I carry my camera and begin collecting lots of images. I tape these images to the wall of my studio and spend many days, weeks or months looking at them. Eventually I will begin painting those I am most interested in. I like to use small snapshots because the details are obscured, and I must be creative to make my final painting work as a whole. Sometimes I sketch from the photograph in my notebook, sometimes I crop the photograph with paper, sometimes I sketch on the canvas first, sometimes I use multiple photographs for one final painting, and sometimes I just dive right and see what happens! Following are some examples of the original photos and the final painting using these techniques.
